Nano Nagle Centrum

Not words, but deeds ”

Nano Nagle

The Presentation Story spans more than two hundred and fifty years. Having set up her first schools in Cork, Ireland in 1754, Nano Nagle founded her religious congregation on Christmas Eve 1775 and Pope Pius VI granted it full Papal approval in 1791. We are the Union of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Catholic religious Congregation, dedicated to the mission of Jesus. As Presentation Sisters, we are called to follow Christ in the spirit of Nano Nagle, bringing the good news by promoting God's kingdom of truth and goodness, justice, love and peace. As companions of Nano Nagle, a heroic woman who pioneered radical Catholic education in eighteenth century Ireland, we share her charism today throughout the world.

Over the years many convents and schools were founded throughout Ireland and the world. Today, over 2,500 sisters work as teachers, counsellors, therapists, nurses, administrators, spiritual guides, chaplains, pastoral agents, and in community and enterprise development. The Presentation Sisters arrived in Slovakia in 1992, and now minister in Bratislava, and Spišské Podhradie.

Our Mission Statement explains our commitment which is to walk among the Slovak people in joyful hope, being a listening reflective presence and accompanying them on their journey. We give encouragement and support in challenging injustices, empowering people to live with dignity and freedom. This determines where and how we live.

The Nano Nagle Centre in Spišské Podhradie was set up in 2004 by the Presentation Sisters in Slovakia, to work for social justice through responding to unmet needs. It was officially blessed and opened on Presentation Day, 21st November by Mons. František Tondra, Bishop of Špis Diocese.

Education is our approach to all our work, promoting new understandings, awareness raising on issues of human rights and ecology and a deep awareness of the faith and Presentation Spirituality that underlines all our work, especially with those most excluded. We work with people and organisations in innovative ways and through that collaboration strive to influence public policy in favour of people experiencing exclusion.
